This is the same mix as Qalqilya but without sesame.
Zaatar, Za’atar or Zataar is a dried herb grew naturally in the mountains of Palestine. It is a must have breakfast item, you dip the bread in olive oil and then in the Zaatar mix. You can also make Zaatar paste by adding olive oil to it. Zaatar paste is commonly used as a spread on bread or for baking Manakish. Manakish is a pizza like meal but with zaatar instead of cheese. Many middle eastern bakeries sell those Manankish pies, a must try bakery item.
The zaatar mix is made by crushing the dried zaatar leaves , add sumac, salt, oregano, olive oil or vegetable oil and some additional herbs. The taste is completely depended on the ratios of these ingredients and the zaatar herb used.
